GRAND magazine opens nominations for 2011 GRANDparent of the Year!
I think I’ve shared with many of you that I will soon be a grandmother myself! I wanted to share GRAND magazine’s contest that recognizes those playing the important role of being a grandparent.
GRAND Magazine, REAL Powered by Humana, and American Humane Association Ask Americans to Nominate a GRANDparent of the Year Nominations Now Open; Deadline for entries August 5
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) June 08, 2011 – If each person who became a new grandparent in the U.S. today was ‘friended’ on a Facebook® account, it would get you banned within 24 hours. Every day 5,000 adults in the U.S. become grandparents, enough to get an account disabled on the popular social networking site for having too many friends. Those new grandparents each day are added to the nation’s approximately 78 million grandparents, a huge force of influence on younger generations, and a group whose members are due for more appreciation.
GRAND magazine, the leading publication for the nation’s 78 million grandparents, REAL Powered by Humana, American Humane Association and 1-800-Flowers.com announce the call for nominations for the fifth annual GRANDParent of The Year Award, that recognizes the love, wisdom and growing importance of grandparents to our world, honors those whose lives demonstrate the unconditional loving bond between child and grandparent, and brings greater awareness to Grandparents’ Day on September 11, 2011.
“A number of factors, such as job losses and foreclosures during the recession and parents in the military stationed overseas, have contributed to grandparents being the primary caregivers for nearly six million children in this country – and the numbers are still growing,” said Christine Crosby, CEO of GRAND Media LLC and publisher of GRAND magazine. “In fact, 75 percent of all non-parent care of children in America is now provided by grandparents – that is a startling shift in family dynamics. We want to acknowledge this guardian role that is increasingly being taken on by grandparents and help all grateful grandchildren shine a spotlight on their beloved grandparents by enabling them to say ‘thank you’ in a big way.”
How to Enter Anyone can nominate a candidate for GRANDparent of the Year, including grandchildren, children of a deserving grandparent, spouse, or friends who have seen an older person caring and sharing in a way that merits recognition. An individual grandparent or a grandparenting couple can be nominated.
Nomination forms are available online at http://www.grandmagazine.com (http://grandmagazine.com/promo_gpoty11.asp) in the current May/June issue and in the coming July/August issue of GRAND magazine. Describe your special grandparent in the submission and why he or she deserves the distinguished title of GRANDparent of the Year.
Nominations opened on May 1, 2011 with the May/June issue of GRAND Magazine and close after midnight August 5, 2011 (Eastern).
Prizes An exciting prize package is to be announced for the winner (one grandparent or a grandparent couple), paired with a tribute to the winner and finalists in the September/October issue for GRAND magazine and on GRAND magazine Radio (http://www.wsradio.com/internet-talk-radio.cfm/shows/Grand-Magazine-Radio-.html).
